University of Bradford

Product testing is essential when it comes specifying quality lighting

The University of Bradford, based in the heart of Yorkshire, is a technology university with over 50 years of cutting-edge research experience. The university has recently invested in upgrading a number of its facilities to benefit from increased energy efficiency as well as improving the learning environments for its students.

The project involved three areas of the university which included research facilities, laboratories, teaching spaces, communal areas and offices. Gamma, along with another supplier, were selected to tender for the projects. All of the luminaires that Gamma put forward, apart from the OMOD ADJ, were chosen for the projects. On further discussions with the client, they explained that the alternative had a higher efficiency. Always striving to provide the best service to its partners, Gamma offered to test the alternative product to ensure that the client was getting what they believed was the right product.

The test revealed that although the fitting delivered on efficiency, it featured an inferior driver which didn’t pass the flicker test. Knowing how essential it was for an application of this type to be installed with high quality products to provide students with a conducive environment to learn, the university changed the specification to the higher quality OMOD ADJ, averting what could have been a costly mistake.
