News / What is LG2?

LG2 stands for Lighting Guide 2: Hospitals and health care buildings (2008).

This guide covers some of the most complex and varied areas required by a lighting design. It is issued by the Society of Light and Lighting. It gives recommendations on the technical aspects of lighting areas which require specific and exacting levels of visual performance along with efficiency targets according to DEER and Building Regulations Approved documents L1/L2.

Lighting for hospitals and healthcare not only must achieve the technical aspects, it must also give an excellent visual environment, giving spaces a sense of well-being and promote an air of competence giving patients and relatives a welcome reassurance.

As many people ‘non-technical’ people may be part of the design team, the lighting design should also be able to visually represent the spaces to demonstrate the lit environment.
