Project requirements

Keswick Reach Lodge Retreat opened in Winter 2016 to offer holidaymakers a luxury escape in the Lake District with high quality amenities, from self-catering facilities and home-from-home comforts in the lodges to the Copper Fells Bar & Brasserie, the Ammara spa and even a dedicated dog wash in the main building.

The site, previously known as the North Lakes Caravan Park, was purchased by Darwin Escapes who invested in it heavily to rejuvenate it and bring it up to a modern standard in line with their 18 other holiday parks, all situated in handpicked locations throughout the UK.

Integra Electrical Contractors, with whom we have partnered on several holiday and leisure park projects previously, sought out our assistance in designing the lighting for the main building and outbuildings. The brief was to develop a stylish and energy efficient scheme that would reflect the modern look and feel of the resort whilst providing the best possible lighting solutions for the diverse range of amenities and staff facilities found throughout the site.

Project solutions

To meet this demanding brief, Gamma developed a plan that would enable Keswick Reach to replace the majority of the existing CFL fittings in the communal and staff buildings with LEDs, providing greatly improved light quality, energy efficiency, functionality and aesthetics.

Architectural downlights were chosen to complement the contemporary interior of the building housing the guest amenities, while luminaires of a more utilitarian nature were distributed throughout the housekeeping and maintenance buildings to meet their functional requirements. IP65 bezels were attached to fittings where necessary to protect them against water and dust ingress, and ILEM stand alone emergency modules placed throughout all three buildings for full compliance with the British Standards.

Guest building

Chosen for their discreet and stylish architectural look, low-profile, low-glare dimmable Topaz ACJ and ACA downlights were placed throughout the restaurant, bar, lounge, reception and retail display areas. With their exceptional performance, stylish satin etched reflectors and IP65 accessories, Sysion AAJ 195 mm downlights made the ideal choice for the spa areas and changing rooms.

Meanwhile, compact 130 mm Great White TTT downlights with multi-faceted reflectors and wide beam angles provided the output and efficacy required to effectively illuminate the toilets, staff changing rooms, cloakrooms, storage areas and escape corridors.

Housekeeping and maintenance buildings

Duro ABI anti-corrosive IP65 and IK10 battens were installed in the covered storage areas and throughout the workshop, plant areas, secure stores and drying rooms, providing a robust solution that would hold its own against dust and water ingress.

The AJI surface mounted bulkhead, with its integrated emergency lighting solution, created a clean and classic look in the lobby and toilets of the housekeeping area. Syncro ADI fire rated IP65 mini downlights were also installed to provide a consistently high quality of light whilst adhering to Darwin Escapes’ stringent health and safety standards.

Project results

Once again, we have proven our ability to deliver complex and varied projects on time and to budget, resulting in a scheme that is in keeping with the luxury look and feel of the holiday park.

Sam Baker, Electrical Contractor at Integra, said:

“We chose Gamma for this project because we knew that their flexible approach and range of quality LED luminaires would help us to fulfil the client's varied product requirements. The result is an energy efficient and architectural lighting solution that delivers on ambience, efficacy and safety.”
