House Of Fraser Sheffield

Refurb all wrapped up for Christmas

The race was on to get the refurbishment of House Of Fraser's store at the Meadowhall Centre in Sheffield wrapped up in time for the Christmas rush. The final phase was completed at the beginning of November and the store now looks clean, bright and inviting and looks set to attract record numbers of Christmas shoppers over the next few weeks.

Extensive use of concealed T5 cove lighting has produced a pleasing diffused general background light, as well as complimenting the 2x32W downlights highlighting the major walkways throughout the store. They also have the added benefit of creating some stunning lighting features within the ceiling alcoves, as you can see in some of the images above. The cove lighting system features quick fix connectors which allowed the Contractor to fit the entire installation over the course of just one night.

Display lighting is provided by EFI gimbal downlights. These powerful HID luminaires have excellent colour rendering properties, essential for clothing retailers, and can be easily adjusted to suit regularly changing merchandise displays.

QL downlights are used in areas around the escalators because their extraordinarily long rated lamp life (100,000 hours) virtually eliminates the need for disruptive maintenance throughout the life of the luminaires. They also deliver the bright  flicker-free light needed to ensure that customers can use the escalators safely.

The store is one of the first major installations of our new LED emergency systems. Integral 3W LED emergency converted 2 x 32W downlights are positioned at regular intervals along the main walkways, with stand-alone 3W LED emergency modules being used to fill in where there are no downlights, to ensure that exit routes are clearly lit in the event of an interruption to the power supply.
